MP's support for postal services

Gideon Amos MP pledged to support postal services during a pre-Christmas visit to the Royal Mail’s Taunton sorting office on Friday.
He toured the Chip Lane facility with Sean Monk, one of the managers, and chatted to staff about their roles.
Mr Amos, who met his own postie, Dave Finch, said afterwards: “It was great to be able to thank my postie and all the posties working over Christmas.
“It’s very important that we keep our Post Offices going,
“I really want to see a Post Office in Wellington again – we’re missing that, and we need government support to make it happen."
Mr Amos added: “Posties do great work, looking out for people as well as delivering the post.”
Sean said he wished their customers all the best over the Christmas period, "
"Please be patient with us - you will get your presents and letters before Christmas Day."
He said that last week, the sorting office had delivered 375,200 letters and cards and 75,000 parcels.
"This week is another bumper week - so far we have delivered 220,000 letters and 60,000 parcels
"We are delivering parcels seven days a week and letters six days a week up to 2100hrs each day.
"The team of 180 people, with additional support of 19 agency staff, are working tirelessly to deliver Christmas to our customers."
*Wellington has been without a Post Office since 2019 when the One Stop convenience store in High Street, which housed it, closed.
Since then, the nearest facility has been at Rockwell Green.
