Lib Dem councillor sees play area efforts bear fruit

A Liberal Democrat councillor has seen his efforts to see a former play area improved bear fruit.
Chris Booth, who is chairman of Wellington Town Council economic development committee, had called for the site at Gay Close to be given a makeover.
The work was carried out recently, with trees and bulbs planted, and further is planting set to take place.
Chris said: "I am delighted the project has come to fruition.
“I have been pushing for this for over two years to help give this little area a little bit of love and improve the look for residents living nearby.
“It also supports the town council's tree planting ambitions.
“Hopefully this can be a precedent for other small areas like this around the town."
Announcing the work last month, the town council said: “The trees being planted are Amelanchier Arborea Robin Hill, also known as Juneberry, an ornamental tree which blossoms beautifully in the spring and whose leaves change colour throughout the year.
“This tree also produces black berries which are loved by birds and wildlife and are non-toxic to pets and humans.
“We hope these trees will make the area more aesthetically pleasing and create a small haven for local wildlife.”
