School children quiz Gideon
Gideon Amos, the Liberal Democrat candidate for Taunton and Wellington, marked his 14th school visit in the run-up to the General Election on Monday, July 1st.
He took part in a panel event with four of the other candidates at Court Fields School in Wellington.
All parliamentary candidates were quizzed by students from the host school, along with IKB Primary School and Wellesley Park Primary School.
Gideon said afterwards: "Pupils asked really great questions and are clearly as fed up with the current government as everyone else.
"It was a privilege to hear from such well informed and thoughtful students.
"The failure of school funding to keep pace with inflation has meant real hardship for many pupils and big problems for local teachers and schools.
"We would invest in public services, especially health, social care and education, funded by taxing super profits made by the big banks and energy companies.
"That would enable an increase in the Pupil Premium - first introduced by Lib Dems - and would guarantee an increase in school and college funding per pupil above the rate of inflation every year, would fund a qualified dedicated mental health professional in every school and would allow pay increases for teachers set by a new fully-independent teachers' pay review body."
